Childrens Recipes

A location to brainstorm Children's Recipes. Simple things that perhaps need no cooking (like the ol' standby 'ants on a log') to those that a child can start and finish themselves or perhaps with very limited supervision since most children are home

Hello Chefs,
Child Hunger Day is just right around the corner. Anyone else planning an event? This will be our chapters second event. Last year for our event was Beat The Sweets, Swap Your Treats. We challanged our local Elementary School to swap their regular school snacks with cool and healthier alternatives made by our chapter Chefs. We swapped over 250 snacks. It was very fun and easy. Any ideas to share?

Heidi thanks on the idea of the nutrition board, I'll check into that.

On the "ants on a log" theme... there is "Fishing"... pretezl sticks (small ones not rods) peanutbutter and gold fish crackers. Dip the end of the pretzel into the peanutbutter and pick up the gold fish cracker. The healthly twist... carrot or celery sticks, lt cream cheese, w/ baked gold fish crackers. I cut carrots into slices, using a small sugar art flower cutter i punch out carrot flowers, give them celery sticks, and cream cheese... way cute and tasty too.

I have tons of child friendly recipes, what are you guys looking for? I work with family home day cares in regard to nutrition, food sanitation and menu planning. I need to know age groups you want information on... Chunky Lunch for toddlers (helps with motor skills) or meals for older kids who want to participate in "helping".

With regard to school lunches... Mia, you might consider contacting your local Department of Education Office of School Health & Nutrition, they may have a board you could volunteer on or may even need some assistance. Look at the Team Nutrition web site for links and ideas for school age meals etc.

Don't have much to share right now but I am looking to learn more about good, nutritious and delicious children's recipes. I hope to improve school lunches some day, specially for children with food allergies.

Hello Tom-
I joined this group because I enjoy teaching kids cooking classes, and also have two little ones of my own aged 7 and 10. Perhaps I too can share and learn a new thing or two. I will talk to you soon, I look forward to corresponding with you and the group.
