Johnson County Community College will conduct a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Hospitality & Culinary Academy at 1 p.m. May 22, 2012

The new academy will be located on the eastern side of the college campus, just south of the Regnier Center.

The $12-million, free-standing facility will accommodate the 700 students enrolled in the college’s nationally recognized hospitality management program and provide space for noncredit classes and community activities, including new opportunities for workforce development and partnerships.

The 36,000-square-foot building will house seven kitchens – five culinary labs, an innovation kitchen and a demonstration kitchen in a culinary theater – as well as three classrooms.

The five culinary labs include two for professional cooking classes, one for pastry classes, a garde manger or cold foods kitchen, and a restaurant kitchen. The restaurant kitchen will adjoin a dining room on the east end of the building that can be converted to two classrooms as needed.

With the ACF Central Region 2012 Conference wrapping up we look forward to many exciting events slated to take place locally. But I would like to recognize the outstanding talent, knowledge and skills that both our local JCCC Culinary Team and JCCC Knowlege Bowl Teams demonstrated in Detroit, along with the dedicated Coaches that work with the teams.

Congratulations also go out to Chef Edward Adel CEC Chef Instructor at JCCC for winning the Galbani® Mozzarella Caprese Challenge. Chef Adel best of Luck at the National this summer

As a Chapter we also were presented with another Chapter Achivement Award. This is is large part to our Board and of course all of you who participate in the many events we have throughout the year.  Thank you all

To all, a loss of a great friend and supporter of the GKCCA and ACF

If you have not already heard the Greater Kansas City Chefs Association has lost a long time friend and strong supporter of the Chefs Association. This past Saturday Susan "Suz" Case of the Herb Company left us all. Always a bright smile, full of laughter and never an unkind towards anyone "Suz" showed each of us how to treat one another. Please keep Eric and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
