I know the summer is almost upon us and with that in mind, vacations are in our thoughts so I do want to get out an early invitation for our next Chefs Meeting for the month of June.

US Foods will be our host again this year for a 'Small Plates' competition. This year's theme will be BBQ to honor Ms. Karen Putman.
All proceeds from this dinner will be donated in her memory.

Reminder that the next Chefs (GKCCA) Meeting/Dinner will be held on Tuesday evening May 15, 2012 at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Lenexa, KS
Johnson County Community College will conduct a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Hospitality & Culinary Academy at 1 p.m. May 22, 2012
The new academy will be located on the eastern side of the college campus, just south of the Regnier Center.
The $12-million, free-standing facility will accommodate the 700 students enrolled in the college’s nationally recognized hospitality management program and provide space for noncredit classes and community activities, including new opportunities for workforce development and partnerships.

The 36,000-square-foot building will house seven kitchens – five culinary labs, an innovation kitchen and a demonstration kitchen in a culinary theater – as well as three classrooms.
The five culinary labs include two for professional cooking classes, one for pastry classes, a garde manger or cold foods kitchen, and a restaurant kitchen. The restaurant kitchen will adjoin a dining room on the east end of the building that can be converted to two classrooms as needed.
With the ACF Central Region 2012 Conference wrapping up we look forward to many exciting events slated to take place locally. But I would like to recognize the outstanding talent, knowledge and skills that both our local JCCC Culinary Team and JCCC Knowlege Bowl Teams demonstrated in Detroit, along with the dedicated Coaches that work with the teams.
Congratulations also go out to Chef Edward Adel CEC Chef Instructor at JCCC for winning the Galbani® Mozzarella Caprese Challenge. Chef Adel best of Luck at the National this summer
As a Chapter we also were presented with another Chapter Achivement Award. This is is large part to our Board and of course all of you who participate in the many events we have throughout the year. Thank you all

The Olathe North Culinary Team is instructed and coached by Chef Mike Chrostowski
The 2012 Herndon Culinary (Raytown, Missouri) team is composed of; Team Captain; Hailey Rausch, Lee’s Summit High School; Tia Throckmorton, Lee’s Summit North High School; Ashley Battle, Lee’s Summit West High School; Amanda Sutcliffe, Lee’s Summit North High School and Alternate Lauren Daugherty, Raytown High School.
The Herndon Career Centers Culinary Team is instructed and coached by Chef Jeff Qualls, along with team mentor coaches Marc Leary and Tommy Dimarco.
The 11th Annual National ProStart Invitational will be held April 27-29, in Baltimore, Maryland at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront hotel. There will be over 40 other states competing for Full Ride Scholarships. Please wish our two local Culinary Teams the best of luck in this years National Pro-Start Competition

If you have not already heard the Greater Kansas City Chefs Association has lost a long time friend and strong supporter of the Chefs Association. This past Saturday Susan "Suz" Case of the Herb Company left us all. Always a bright smile, full of laughter and never an unkind towards anyone "Suz" showed each of us how to treat one another. Please keep Eric and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

2012 Taste Of Elegance Kansas City, MO
First off congratulations to all the particpants of this years "Taste of Elegance" that was held this past Tuesday 2/21/2012 at the downtown Marriott. The dishes presented were very orginal and exciting. Everyone who attended raved about the level of Culinary Skills and Creativity that was presented.
